Michael Thorn, an ordained Baptist minister, a U.S. Army veteran, and a lifelong son of East Texas, he has spent his adult life in the two institutions that shape his fiction — the church and the service — and he writes about small-town Texas from the inside: the covered-dish suppers and the called business meetings, the courthouse squares and the county jails, the lakes that keep what they're given. He lives in Henderson County, Texas, in the very landscape where his debut novel is set — a place where, as his characters would tell you, the stories are all true and the legend is still a lie. When he isn't writing, he is generally to be found fishing, or raising his children to tell the truth even when it costs. WHAT SMOKE CREEK KEPT is his first novel.
